about

"A Trip to Ignoreland" is a longing for concealment, for freedom, for being unhinged. The album was created over the course of the last two years in largely solitary but all the more liberating labour. Henchmen in the lab were a number of guitars, effects units, percussion instruments, synths, software and a theremin.

Escapism and rebellion are nothing negative, but merely movements away from something, towards something else. The songs deal with (what else?) the present, the passing of time, the struggle with it and the hope for something better.

A J.R.R. Tolkien quote: "Why should someone who is in prison and tries to get out and go home be despised? Or, if that's not possible: if he thinks and talks about other topics than guards and dungeon walls?"

Exactly. It's all just music, of course. A companion for disappearing - without getting lost. To escape a frayed existence full of expectations and egoism. To escape wasting time on meaningless things of all kinds. Lift your gaze and seek the horizon again.

The album is a complete solo flight, conceived, composed, played and produced by Tom Yam Gai at the Labor für Renitenz & Relevanz in an industrial area in Cologne. Songs were created layer by layer, frying in their own juices, only to come together in a more or less random mix of dreampop, psychedelia, rock stuff and triphop. Finishing touches were given by Sebastian Kiefer at Rookie Mastering in snowy Berlin in January. The "Trip" is enhanced by the exclusive and magnificent cover artwork by Cologne artist Annette Riemann.
